The NIHSeniorHealth website is a joint project of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM), both part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US. The site features health information for older adults, tailored to meet their needs.
This talking website has been designed so seniors can easily navigate, read, understand and remember the health information provided. You can turn speech on with a click of the mouse to hear the text read aloud. Users can also enlarge text size or select high contrast for better readability. Short, easy-to-read segments of information are repeated in various formats.
Health and disease information includes topics such as Alzheimer disease and caregiving, arthritis, balance problems, breast cancer, colorectal disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), depression, diabetes, exercise, eye problems, falls, hearing loss, heart disease, high blood pressure, lung cancer, osteoporosis, shingles, skin cancer, sleep, stroke, taking medicines and talking with your doctor. Each topic provides information on causes and symptoms, diagnosis, treatments and research, prevention, risk factors and frequently asked questions.
Visitors to the site will also find open-captioned video clips, video transcripts, photos and illustrations with captions and exercise stories.
A site index is available.
