Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada
(Program/Service; Web resource)
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is a national, voluntary organization that supports research, provides services and conducts public and professional education programs.
The society’s website is bilingual and provides information on the society’s history, mission and goals, research projects, education programs for patients and health-care professionals, and fundraising events. Frequently asked questions and answers are posted along with personal profiles of people involved with the society. Visitors to the site can also share their stories. Issues of MS Canada, a quarterly newsletter, are available. National Medical Update Memos provide information on current issues and fast-breaking news related to MS research and treatments.
Brochures and publications produced by the society are listed and cover issues important to people who have been newly diagnosed with MS, family members, children and teens, caregivers, health-care professionals and employers. Brochures and practical tips on managing day-to-day living, specific problems and staying well are also available.
The National Information Resource Centre (NIRC) has information for consumers and professionals, available through the national and division offices. Information is distributed by e-mail, postal delivery, fax, or telephone. Most resources are in a computerized library database called the ASK MS Program. Information is provided on diagnosis, treatments, complementary therapies, symptoms, genetics, psychological issues and current research.
Divisions and chapters of the society are listed geographically with contact information. From these locations, you can access information about education programs and support activities specific to your community. MS clinics across Canada are listed by region. Contact information is provided.
The website is searchable and a site map is available.
