THE CAMPAIGN FOR WOMEN’S COLLEGE HOSPITAL

Around the world, health care is changing.  Technology is transforming the way care is delivered. And research is unlocking new understanding about the unique health needs of women.

Women’s College Hospital has always been ahead of the curve. Now we are developing new ways to shape care around the needs of patients, and if possible, get them in and out of the hospital in less than a day.

But you can’t practice new medicine in an old hospital.

And that’s why we’re building! To realize this vision, Women’s College Hospital Foundation is dedicated to raising the $70 million needed from our community to complete this innovative project.

It’s a challenge, but at Women’s College Hospital, we’ve never let a challenge slow us down.

Help us build the new home of Women’s College Hospital.  Support our redevelopment and the future of health care for women and their families.

Building the Hospital of the Future

Women’s College Hospital

When Women’s College Hospital was built in the 1930’s, patients often spent days, even weeks in the hospital. Today 90% of all care is provided without a hospital stay. With new technologies, patients can undergo tests and receive medical treatments, and go home in the same day. This means less infection, better healing and a faster return to family and work.

By 2015, Women’s College Hospital will have a new, state-of-the-art facility to support the leadership and innovation our hospital is known for.

The new home of Women’s College won’t be built around in-patient wards and bedrooms. Instead, specialized clinics, centres and surgical suites that combine treatment, care and education will be the focus. An easily accessible hub of programs and clinics will enable care providers to help patients prevent and manage their diseases and conditions so they can live healthier and more independent lives.

We’re providing the most advanced care for women living with conditions that affect them throughout their lives – diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, mental illness, migraine and cancer. And we’re doing it all without overnight hospitalization.

It’s called an ambulatory approach to care, and it’s the best response to women’s health needs.

Ambulatory care allows for surgeries, diagnostic procedures and treatments that do not require an overnight stay. That means patients can be released within 18 hours, and can recover in the comfort of their own home.

Because we all need a hospital to keep us out of the hospital.
